Quintessence, also called Aether is the fifth element. Some believe it to have been the sound and vibration released by God during the creation of the Universe when the words “Let there be Light” were spoken. It is further believed that the phrase “In the beginning was the Word” from the Gospel of John also refers to the creation of Quintessence as the primary element. Aether (or space) created Air, followed by Fire, Water, and Earth. In this sense, Quintessence can be considered our Source and our way home to the Circle of Spirit. It permeates and animates all of Creation, like an invisible thread through which all of Life is connected.
